It's not necessary to remove the
Distributor from the engine to replace the ignition module. Begin by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and removing the air cleaner to create space around the distributor. Next, remove the
Distributor Cap and wires as an assembly, positioning them out of the way. Detach the rotor by removing the screws, then carefully detach the wires from the module terminals. If the wires are connected with a plastic connector, release the locking tang before pulling it off. If the wires are difficult to remove, it may be easier to first remove the module mounting screws, detach the module, and then pull off the wires, taking care not to damage them. After that, remove the screws and lift out the module, noting that it can only be tested with special equipment; if malfunction is suspected, have it checked by an auto parts store or dealer service department, as many will perform this service free of charge. For installation, reverse the removal process, ensuring to apply the silicone dielectric grease supplied with the new module to the distributor pad, as using any other type of grease can cause the module to overheat and fail.
