Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and remove the floor console. Block the wheels to prevent rolling and place the parking brake lever in the fully released position. From underneath the vehicle, pull the equalizer toward the rear to expose the inner parking brake cable, clamping it with padded locking pliers to relieve tension on the rear cables, ensuring not to damage the plastic anti-corrosion coating. Inside the vehicle, use a screwdriver to rotate the self-adjuster clip into the lock position, then remove the locking pliers from the cable. Lift the parking brake lever partway, stopping before the self-adjuster clip touches the mounting bracket, then raise the lever all the way and disconnect the electrical connector for the parking brake warning light switch. Free the parking brake cables from the equalizer, unscrew the mounting nuts, and lift the lever off its mounting studs. Install the lever and tighten the mounting nuts securely, reconnecting the electrical connector for the parking brake switch and the cables to the equalizer. Lower the parking brake lever all the way, then raise it, pulling the lever boot up to expose the multiplier lever and raising and lowering it three times to re-enable the automatic adjuster. Pull and release the parking brake lever three times to adjust the cables, then reposition the lever boot and check the operation of the parking brake before driving. For the cables, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and release the parking brake, then disengage the automatic cable adjuster. Remove the rear driveshaft, free the parking brake cables from the equalizer and cable bracket, and support the fuel tank with a jack, lowering it enough to expose the cable retaining nut and stud on the vehicle floor. Remove the nuts and slip the cables off the retainer studs, then disengage the cables from the brackets on the frame. Squeeze the locking tabs retaining each cable in its bracket at the rear wheel, pull the cable housing out, compress the spring, and slip the cable through the bracket slot. Disengage the cable from the actuator at the rear wheel, pass the cable through the frame toward the center of the vehicle, and remove it. Start installation by passing the cable(s) over the fuel tank and through the frame from the center toward the outside, completing the installation in reverse order of removal, then activate the automatic adjuster and adjust the cable.
