GMC Canyon Blower Motor Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How do you check the blower motor for Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon?
A: To troubleshoot a faulty climate control fan in a vehicle, start by checking the fuse and all connections in the circuit for loose connections or corrosion. Ensure that the battery is fully charged. Locate the heater/blower relay and blower fuse in the underhood fuse panel. The blower motor resistor can be found in the HVAC housing under the right side of the instrument panel, near the blower motor. With the transmission in Park and the parking brake set, turn the ignition switch to the Run position. Remove the right-side door sill plate and plastic trim panel at the lower part of the hinge pillar to access the blower motor. Back probe the blower motor electrical connector with a voltmeter and observe the voltage readings as the blower switch is moved through each position. Changes in voltage indicate varying motor speeds. If there is voltage present but the blower motor does not operate, it is likely faulty. Disconnect the blower motor connector and test it by connecting one side of the terminals to a chassis ground and the other to a fused source of battery voltage. If the blower still does not operate, it is faulty. If there was no voltage present at the blower motor, and the motor itself tested OK, check the blower motor ground wire for continuity to the ground against the chassis metal. Repair the ground circuit if necessary. If the blower still does not operate properly, the resistor, control panel, or related wiring may be faulty.
  • Q: How do you remove the Blower Motor for Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon?
A: Remove the blower motor by disconnecting the battery negative cable and removing the right side door sill plate, the plastic trim panel attached to the tight hinge pillar, and detaching the electrical connector. Remove the blower motor screws, and the cooling tube, remove the blower motor, and detach it from the cover.
