GMC Safari Brake Proportioning Valve safeguards the van by balancing brake fluid pressure so the rear drums avoid locking while the front discs carry the heavier stopping load during a hard pedal push. It does so by giving less pressure to the rear brakes. The Brake Proportioning Valve is located either atop the master cylinder or inside the combination valve. This valve is inactive until abrupt deceleration forces build. At that point, the spring-driven piston slides to block flow to the rear circuit, maintaining control while preventing skidding. On every GMC mid-size van with front disc and rear drum hardware, this part serves as an important link in the ABS. - Q: How to disconnect the wire from the pressure differential switch on GMC Safari with Brake Proportioning Valve?A:Turn off ignition and locate the pressure differential switch. Disconnect its wire and ground it using a jumper wire. With ignition on, check if the instrument panel warning light illuminates. If not, replace the bulb or fix the circuit. Reconnect the wire and ensure master cylinder reservoirs are full. With a bleeder hose on the rear wheel valve, have a helper press the brake pedal while you open the valve; the warning light should turn on. Repeat for the front brake. If the light doesn't turn on but works with a jumper, replace the brake proportioning valve. To do so, protect painted surfaces, disconnect hydraulic lines, and the electrical connector. Remove the bolt and valve. Install in reverse order and bleed brakes.
