How to remove a rear shock absorber on GMC Sierra?

To remove the shock absorber, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector and the airline from the shock absorber. Support the rear axle with a floor jack. Remove the shock absorber fasteners and then remove it. Installation is the reverse of removal.

The GMC Sierra Shock Absorber provides a smoother ride by controlling bumps and keeping the truck's tires on uneven pavement. Shock Absorber rely on coil or leaf springs and consist of a hydraulic piston that forces oil through narrow passages, turning motion into heat so that shaking and bouncing cease quickly.
