Q: How to remove and install various speakers in a Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain?
A: Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the center trim panel. Note: On 2010 and later models, the radio and air conditioning/heating control assembly is mounted to the center trim panel. Once the trim panel is removed the control assembly can be removed from the trim panel. Once the control unit is removed the radio unit may be removed. Remove the radio mounting screws and pull the radio from the instrument panel. Disconnect the electrical connector and the antenna cable from the back of the radio. Installation is the reverse of removal.For the lower door speakers, remove the door trim panel. Remove the speaker mounting screws. Remove the speaker from the door, then disconnect the electrical connector. Installation is the reverse of removal.For the upper front door speakers, pull off the upper speaker panel, starting at the top. Lift it to slide the lower tabs out of the door panel. Disconnect the electrical connector. Twist the speaker to remove it from the panel. Installation is the reverse of removal.For the rear speaker, remove the carpet retaining trim piece. Remove the pillar trim. Remove the rear upper trim molding. Remove the rear floor storage bin. Remove the cargo hooks. Pull the quarter trim panel out, disengaging its retaining clips. Remove the speaker mounting screws, then remove the speaker and disconnect the electrical connector. For the instrument panel front center speaker, on models equipped with a storage compartment, open the storage compartment lid and remove the two mounting screws, then remove the storage unit from the top of the instrument panel. On models equipped with an upper center trim panel, use a trim panel tool and carefully pry the trim panel from the top of instrument panel. Remove the speaker mounting screws. then remove the speaker and disconnect the electrical connector. Installation is the reverse of removal.
