The following oil seals can be replaced without removing the transmission from the car, the speedometer gear seal as well as the extension oil seal. In order to remove the seal of the speedometer gear, first, the car has to be lifted to get access to the link underneath and the car is to be fixed on stands firmly. Remove the cable from the speedometer, then unscrew the lockwasher, bolt and lockplate for the extension, then remove this lockplate. Loosen and then remove the fitting gear and shaft from the extension using a screwdriver then pop out the O-ring. For installation: reverse the information provided under removal procedure, do not forget to lubricate the new seal with transmission lubricant and, thereafter, the pouring of the assembly so that the slot in the fitting is in engages with the lockplate boss on the extension. For the extension oil seal first unbolt the drive shaft and any other items needed for extra space for the seal. Very gently remove the previous seal and ascertain the condition of the counter bore before washing it. Before assembling the new seal to the shaft the spaces between the lips of the new seal should be pre-coated with the transmission lubricants while the outer diameter should be coated with an appropriate sealant. To install the seal, place the lips towards the center and remain in this position until the flange comes into contact with the surface, in the process a tubular spacer can be used. Last but not the least, replace every other component that you might have removed from the vehicle such as the drive shaft.
