On four-cylinder models the ECT sensor is mounted on the thermostat housing in the left rear corner of the cylinder head. Start by pulling off the radiator cap and then using water pump to 'pull a vacuum' on the cooling system, to get the level below that of the ECT sensor. Pull off the electrical connector of the ECT sensor and then using a deep socket, extension and ratchet, unscrew and pull out the ECT sensor. When it is time to install the new sensor, ensure that the threads are coated with Teflon tape so that they do not leak. After that the installation process is vice versa as the removal process and make sure that the sensor is tightened to the next torque value. Last of all, add in the refrigirant of the cooling system. For 3.5L and 3.9L V6 models, the ECT sensor is located in the right-front area of the engine, right end of the front cylinder head. The process is similar: flush it with antifreeze, pull the electrical connection, pull the sensor from its casing and remove it, thread the new one with teflon tape, reinstall it and tighten then replace the fluid. On most 3.6L V6 models, the ECT sensor is attached right over the number 4 exhaust port at the front side of the engine. Release the connection of the electrical connector, remove the sensor while dealing with the coolant leakage, if there is any, thread the Teflon tape around the threads and replace the sensor tightly, then check of coolant leakage.
