Pontiac G6 Coolant Temperature Sensor Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: What role does the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor play in the coolant temperature indicator system for Pontiac G6?
A: Coolant temperature indicator system has a dashboard temperature gauge, warning light, and an engine mounted sensor. Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is an information sensor for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) transmitting a signal to the PCM that operates the temperature gauge. First, if the overheating condition occurs, check the coolant level in the system and that the coolant mixture is correct. Also, before concluding that there's a problem with your temperature indicator, look in troubleshooting section at the beginning of this book. In case, you find out that your temperature gauge still does not move from C position then check wiring harness connections going into the instrument cluster. If there is a problem with your ECT sensor then it is highly possible that you will see Check Engine light come on indicating that you need to repair sensor or circuit.
