The door latch striker consists of a metal bolt and washer assembly threaded into a tapped, floating cage plate in the body pillar, allowing for fore and aft positioning and vertical adjustment. The door locks when the fork bolt engages the striker bolt. To check for fore and aft adjustment, ensure proper door alignment, apply modeling clay to the lock bolt opening, and close the door just enough to form an impression in the clay, noting if the impression is centered. The striker should be centered within minimum and maximum allowable dimensions of 3/32-inch and 6/32-inch, respectively. If not centered, remove the striker using a special wrench and install spacers as needed, available in 3/32-inch and 5/32-inch sizes. After reinstalling the striker, tighten it to the specified torque and check for vertical and horizontal adjustments. If the striker is misaligned, remove it again and enlarge the hole with a flat end rotary file to avoid damaging the tapped cage plate, then reinstall and tighten to the specified torque.
