  Q: How to remove and install the Neutral Safety Switch on Pontiac G6?

  To remove the TR switch, apply parking brake and turn the key in the position of ON.at the same time, shift the lever of gear to the position of NEUTRAL. Find TR switch mounted on top of the transaxle, pull shift control cable from TR switch lever by using screwdriver or taking out trim panel. After that, unlock the lock and detach the electrical connector from the TR switch. TR switch lever nut has to be taken off by locking the lever using the large of water pump pliers then taking off the lever. The mounting bolts are two in number and when they are unscrewed, the TR switch would be pulled off from the transaxle. To install, though the shift lever should remain in NEUTRAL position, slide the two flats, both on the transaxle shift shaft and the TR switch, together and on ninth turn in install the switch mounting bolts loosely. The position of TR switch should be set very carefully, try to use an alignment tool for doing it Then the bolts for mounting should be tightened to the recommended torque. Lastly, while applying force on the TR switch lever nut with the help of water pump pliers tighten is properly.
