How to remove the front and rear bumpers on Saturn ION?

First, apply the hand brake, lift the car up, then use jackstands to support it before starting your work. Cover the untouched parts with masking tape to keep paint from scratching, as you lift off one side of each fender. Before you remove the front bumper, take out both headlight housings first. For Cobalt/G5 cars, you first need to take off the lower splash shield pieces that run along either side of the vehicle. On ION models, start by removing the attachment pins and screws that hold the inner splash shield to the bumper cover. First, take off the front fenderwell fasteners on Cobalt and G5 models to access the bolts holding the bumper cover to the fender, and on ION models, pry apart the front edge slots of the cover from the metal pins at the fender's edge. At the bottom, free the chassis pushpins and unplug the fog lamp wiring, if the car has them. Drill out the pushpins at both radiator support and bumper cover, then take off the energy absorbing foam from the front impact beam. Next remove the impact beam bolts or nuts and pull off the impact beam. To take off the back bumper, enter from the trunk, remove the pushpins under the center of the cover, disconnect the lights' electrical cords, and gently pull out the rear lights. Take out the fasteners holding the rear fenderwell splash shields, and if your car has this feature, push into the underside of the body and remove the then-remove bolts holding the body to the cover. Additionally, remove the bracket that compresses the cover material between the body and the cover. To take off the bumper cover from underneath, pull the pushpins on the bottom edge out first. Pressing outside the cover's edge on both sides lets you separate and remove it. Take out both the energy absorber from the back bumper and the bolts that hold the bumper in place. Installation is the reverse of removal.
