  Q: How do you remove the front and rear bumpers on Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION?

  A: To remove the front bumper on Cobalt/GS and ION models, start by applying the parking brake and raising the vehicle on jackstands. Use masking tape to protect adjacent panels. Remove the headlight housings and the lower splash apron or inner fender splash shield. Remove the fasteners at the front edge of the front fenderwell liners and the pushpins at the radiator support. Disconnect the fog lamp electrical connectors and remove the bumper cover. Remove the energy absorber foam and the impact beam. For the rear bumper, open the trunk and remove the pushpins securing the middle of the bumper cover. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the taillights, side marker lights, and license plate light. Remove the fasteners from the rear fenderwell splash shields and the pushpins along the bottom edge. Pull outward on each side of the bumper cover to disengage it and remove the bumper cover. Remove the energy absorber and the rear bumper mounting bolts or nuts. For HHR models, remove the fasteners at the front edge of the front fenderwell liners and the inner fender splash shield. Disconnect the side marker and fog lamp electrical connectors. Remove the screws at the top of the bumper cover and unhook the snaps around the perimeter to remove the bumper cover. For the rear bumper, open the liftgate and remove the rear cover upper fasteners. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the taillights, side marker lights, and license plate light. Remove the fasteners from the rear fenderwell splash shields and the bumper cover-to-body fastener. Remove the fasteners securing the cover along the bottom edge. Pull outward on each side of the bumper cover to disengage it and remove the bumper cover.
