  Q: How do I remove and install the console in a Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION?

  A: The cable should be disconnected from the negative battery terminal. The parking brake must be on and the wheels blocked. In models with manual transaxles, shift knobs should be unscrewed, then pry up in front of the shifter boot, and remove the shifter boot from the lever. The bezel around the shifter on Cobalt/GS models should be pried out. A trim tool is used to pry up the trim panel around the parking brake handle. The top trim plate is removed and the electrical connectors underneath are disconnected. Thereafter, electrical connectors for the two power outlets are disconnected. Remove left and right side panels carefully. Remove screws securing rear armrest section of console. Remove screws at front and lift off main console panel . For HHR models, pry out switch panel using a trim tool and disconnect electrical connectors . Pry up cup holder to remove storage compartment . Pry out bezel around shifter . Remove screws holding down top trim plate and pry up panel . Carefully remove left and right side panels . Pry out trim panel around console, and lift off main console panel . To remove rear console , pry up cup holder next to parking brake handle . Pry up and remove top trim plate . Remove mounting fasteners securing rear of console , 7.Remove mounting fasteners securing front of console , 8.Disconnect electrical connector for power outlet at bottom of rear panel, lift off rear console (HHR only). For ION models, pry-up center accessory trim panel with a flat-bladed tool/no special tools required. Remove top trim plate.Carefully remove left & right side panels. Squeeze boot around parking brake handle & pull boot off.Remove screws securing rear armrest section of console.Remove screws at front & lift off main console panel.Installation reverse of removal.Reconnect battery.
