Saturn Ion Door Lock Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install Door Handle,Door Latch Assembly and Door Lock Cylinder on Saturn ION?
A: First open the window, and take off the interior trim panel and weather seal. Take off both connectors that connect the lock latch system to the outside door handle and system wiring, if part of the door setup. Free the mounting bolts holding the Door Latch Assembly, plus the screw that keeps the inside handle. Pull all parts of the handle, cable, rods, and Door Latch Assembly at once off the door. Installation is the reverse of removal. You remove the lock cylinder rod by pushing it past a plastic retainer on the lock cylinder. Pushing a clip with pliers, pull it from the lock cylinder. Then pull out the lock cylinder whole from the door. Installation is the reverse of removal. Take hold of the outside handle and pull out the small plastic pin that holds it. To take the door handle out, tilt it forward and pull it away from the door's pivot system. Installation is the reverse of removal. Doing the same steps you used for the front Door Latch Assembly gives you the same outcome for the rear Door Latch Assembly. Lift up your car window. Pull out the door trim panel and watershield. When taking off the panel, we also need to disconnect the interior door handle. Take off the door handle from outside by undoing two screws-one inside the door and one near the rear edge at the back-then releasing the connection between the handle and latch rod. For coupe models, the two smaller "back seat entry" doors have unique replacement processes. These entryways don't have the usual handles that go on both the interior and exterior. You'll have to unlock the front door to reach and lift the plain handle in the front of the back entry door. You line up both bottom and top Door Latch Assemblies with one function from a center handle. To take the handle off, first unscrew it from the mounting place, then gently lift the handle away, disconnecting the two wires that run to it. When the door is open, you can easily take off the upper Door Latch Assembly by removing the upper interior trim piece. Undo the screws that hold the Door Latch Assembly in place, grab it right below the mounting screws, and free the cable connection. You need to take off the door outside skin to find and detach the bottom Door Latch Assembly. Using a screwdriver, take out the screws on the lower Door Latch Assembly and pull it out with its wire. Unpacking the Door Latch Assemblies and handle to install is just like how we took them off.
