Saturn Ion Hood Cable

The Saturn Ion Hood Cable ensures the driver can easily pop the hood, as it connects the release lever in the cabin to the dual latch that secures the panel. When pulling on the lever in the cockpit, the system pulls the flexible steel core through its sheath, pulling hard enough to trip the primary latch mechanism. After that, a secondary branch reaches each side latch, allowing the hood to lift smoothly. Years of heat, grime from the road, and moisture inside the engine bay of your Ion can cause the cable housing to crack. Water can sneak in, and this allows strands to fray or stretch. This leaves a slack that won't let you open the hood. At that point, changing the Hood Cable enables you to easily access the engine for routine checks like oil top-ups and belt inspections. Early models utilized a single continuous Hood Cable that spanned from the lever to the junction, with short connections diverging towards each latch. Subsequently, assemblies amalgamated those connections into a single streamlined Hood Cable that descended directly to both latches, trimming connection points that could corrode. Such changes underwent implementation across the Saturn lineup. The tweaks may have been made, but one thing remains the same: the essential role of Hood Cable in making sure that every Saturn Ion owner is at ease knowing that they can access key engine components at any moment.

Each OEM Saturn Ion Hood Cable we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Saturn Ion Hood Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a hood cable on Saturn ION?
    A:
Open the hood and place blankets or pads over the fenders and cowl area of the body. Remove the hood latch bolts from the radiator support, including the hood latch mounting bolts and release cable bracket. Disconnect the hood cable by rotating the spring to provide slack and disconnect the cable from the hook in the spring. Inside the vehicle, use a trim tool to disengage the clips and remove the left carpet retainer/kick panel. You can use a trim tool to pry up the carpet retainer section of the driver's kick panel and release the clips at the door jamb to remove the carpet retainer/kick panel. Slip two small screwdrivers behind the hood latch handle and pry it from the body, sliding the handle rearward. You may need a screwdriver to pry it rearward. Free the cable end from the handle assembly. Pull back the carpeting on the driver's side and push the rubber hood cable grommet through the firewall toward the engine and pull the hood cable from the interior into the engine compartment. With the new cable attached to the wire or string, pull the wire or string back through the firewall until the new cable reaches the latch. Check that the cable grommet is properly seated in the engine compartment firewall. It should be seated in the firewall and not leak. Working in the passenger compartment, reinstall the hood latch handle into the bracket, sliding the handle onto its bracket until the retainer clips snap into the notches in the bracket. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
