Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the steering column covers and disconnect the two electrical connectors from the ignition switch. To remove the ignition switch from the steering column, disconnect the two electrical connectors and remove the two reverse-Torx head screws, followed by the two switch mounting screws to take out the ignition switch. Installation is the reverse of removal, and the battery should be reconnected. Next, remove the lock cylinder trim bezel from the lower steering column cover by carefully prying it off with a small screwdriver, then remove the steering column covers again. Take out the windshield wiper/washer switch. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder, rotate it to the START position, and insert a 1/8-inch awl or punch through the hole in the top of the casting that houses the ignition lock cylinder to depress the locking button, allowing you to pull out the cylinder. Before installing the ignition lock cylinder, ensure that the actuator blade inside the ignition lock cylinder bore is in the RUN position; if it has been moved, rotate it to the RUN position with needle-nose pliers, as the ignition lock cylinder will not seat correctly otherwise. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal, and the battery should be reconnected. Finally, verify that the ignition switch operates correctly in the OFF, ACC, RUN, and START positions.
