These vehicles are equipped with the Oil Life Indicator, an independent light or message on the instrument panel, this notices the driver that it is time to change the oil, based on such factors as oil wear. What this means is that the current arrangement might let periods of time with oil changes over the conventional 3000 miles but it is advisable to let the engine be checked regularly. If choosing to solely depend on the oil life indicator, then the oil should be changed before the vehicle is used to reach or cover 7500 miles and not to exceed that or 6 months without having to change the oil. Oil deformations due to dilution and contaminants, thus making it necessary to change the oil often to avoid early caching of the engine. All implements concerned should be within reach and it is wise to have papers such as rags or newspapers nearby in case of oil spills. The under body part of the car is best worked on when the car is on a hoist, ramps, or jack stands. Locate the position of the oil drain plug and warm the engine in order to have easy drain of the oil. It is advised to park the car in a flat surface and let the engine run until it is warm before switching off the engine and then further, open the filler cap. Then safely jack up the vehicle and place it on jack stands then put a drain pan under the drain plug, then unscrew the plug and let the old oil drain while checking on it for pieces of metal. It is recommendable to remove the drain plug and clean the vicinity before replacing the plug firmly back in place. Place the drain pan beneath the oil filter, remove the filter cap and detach the filter, making sure the 'O' ring comes out with it. Take off the filter housing, then wash it with fresh water, Install a new O-ring and a filter then put on the cap tightly. For 3.5L V6 models, initially, the oil filter is loosened using a wrench before removing it with the open end upward to avoid, any spillage. Wipe the area on the block where the mounting is to be done, to ensure there is no prior gasket deposits on it. Remove the old filters and compare the old and new ones, then fasten the new one's rubber gasket with a thin layer of engine oil before screwing it in, but beware of too tight a turn. Following the reclining of the vehicle, pour fresh oil through the filler cap and using the dipstick, ascertain that the oil level is sufficient. Let it run for a minute looking for some leaks and check the oil level again and add if need be. The used oil must be disposed off at the right centers where the oil is recycled.
