Q:
How to inspect and clean the throttle body during the inspection process for Chevrolet Impala,Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
A:
During the inspection process, it is important to verify that the throttle linkage operates smoothly. Additionally, the air intake duct should be removed from the throttle body in order to inspect the throttle body bore for any carbon or residue build-up. If any dirt is found, it should be cleaned using a solvent or carburetor cleaner that is safe for oxygen sensor systems and catalytic converters. When it comes to removal, the cable should be disconnected from the negative battery terminal, followed by the removal of the air intake duct and disconnection of the throttle body electrical connector. On V8 models, the EVAP purge line should also be disconnected from the throttle body. On V6 models, the engine coolant should be drained and the heater inlet and outlet pipe retaining nuts should be removed. The two pipes should be set aside after loosening the hose clamps securing them to the heater coolant hoses. The two upper mounting bolts and two lower mounting nuts should then be removed. On V8 models, the four throttle body mounting bolts should be removed to take out the throttle body. The O-ring type throttle body gasket should be inspected and replaced if damaged or worn. During installation, the throttle body should be cleaned and the throttle body gasket should be installed. The throttle body mounting bolts should be tightened to the specified torque. On V6 models, the cooling system should be refilled. Finally, the engine should be started to ensure that the throttle body operates correctly and there are no air leaks.
