To remove the shift cable, start by setting the parking brake and placing chocks on the wheels. Then, remove the driver's side floor console extension panel and disconnect the shift cable end from the ball of the shift lever arm. Unclip the shift cable housing from the shift lever bracket and remove the air filter housing air inlet duct and the air filter housing. Next, disconnect the shift cable end from the ball of the transaxle shift lever arm and remove the shift cable housing retainer. Pinch the locking tabs in and remove the cable from the shift cable bracket. Finally, remove the shift cable grommet from the engine compartment firewall and pull out the shift cable from the engine compartment end to remove it from the vehicle. To install the shift cable, simply follow the reverse order of removal. For adjustment, set the parking brake and chock the wheels. Place the shift lever in park and ensure the transaxle shift lever is also in the park position. Release the cable adjustment clip at the transaxle end and pull the shift cable towards the transaxle lever to remove any free play. Once all free play is removed, push in the adjustment clip and pull on the shift cable to ensure it is fully locked. Check the shift lever for correct operation in all ranges and repeat the adjustment if necessary.
