Q:
How do you remove the Steering Knuckle? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the hub and bearing assembly, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the vehicle securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel and, if working on a 4WD model, remove the hub cover and unscrew the driveaxle/hub nut using a socket and large breaker bar. Use a large prybar or screwdriver to prevent the hub from turning as the nut is loosened. Next, remove the brake caliper and brake disc, hanging the caliper out of the way on a piece of wire without disconnecting the brake hose. Remove the hub and bearing assembly, followed by the disc splash shield from the steering knuckle. Unbolt the brake hose bracket from the top of the steering knuckle and disconnect the tie-rod end and ball joints from the steering knuckle. Finally, remove the steering knuckle. For installation, simply reverse the steps, ensuring that the balljoint, tie-rod end, and hub and bearing assembly fasteners are tightened to the torque specifications. Additionally, tighten the caliper mounting bolts and driveaxle/hub nut (for 4WD models) to the torque specifications, and tighten the wheel lug nuts.
