Q:
How do you remove the High Pressure Fuel Pump for Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the fuel pump, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, remove the engine cover and noise insulation if present. On 1.5L engines, disconnect the charge air cooler pipe from the throttle body and move it aside. Remove the bracket and noise insulation from the fuel pump, and disconnect the low-pressure fuel supply line and electrical connector from the pump. Using a flare-nut wrench, unscrew the fittings from the pump. Remove the high-pressure fuel pump mounting bolts and the pump itself, replacing the bolts and O-ring with new ones. Before installing the pump, ensure that the camshaft lobe is at its base circle by rotating the engine by hand. To install the pump, lubricate the pump roller with camshaft installation lubricant or clean engine oil, then insert it into its bore. Insert the new bolts through the pump holes and install the gasket, which will hold the bolts in place. Set the pump into the cylinder head and tighten the bolts evenly from side to side according to the torque specifications. Finally, reverse the remaining steps of the removal process.
