Remove the high-pressure fuel pump mounting bolts and the pump itself, replacing the bolts and O-ring with new ones.

The fuel pump operation check involves listening for the soft whirring sound made by the fuel pump when the ignition key is turned to ON, indicating that the pump is working. If the pump does not come on, the fuel pump fuse, relay, and wiring should be checked, and if they are all okay, the fuel pump is likely defective. If the pump runs continuously, the PCM may be defective. The fuel pressure check requires a fuel pressure gauge to be connected to the test port on the fuel line. The engine should be started and the gauge reading compared to the proper pressure specifications. If the pressure is too low, there may be a restriction in the fuel system, such as a faulty fuel inlet strainer or a blockage in the fuel line. If the pressure is too high, the fuel pressure regulator should be replaced. After the engine is turned off, the fuel pressure should not lose more than 5 psi in five minutes. Any fuel leaks should be checked for and the system should be cleaned up.

Mark the orientation of the fuel pump in relation to the fuel tank for proper realignment during installation.

Before installation, the o-ring should be inspected and replaced if deteriorated. Then, the module can be installed by reversing the removal process.

After disconnecting the electrical connector, you should disconnect the intake air ducting and, if applicable, remove the thermostat housing.

Disconnect the electrical connector, fuel supply line, and EVAP hoses from the fuel pump/module.

The pump roller should be lubricated with camshaft installation lubricant or clean engine oil before installation.

To remove the primary fuel tank module, all electrical connectors from the module and pressure sensor should be disconnected.

To remove the high-pressure fuel pump, first relieve the fuel system pressure. Then, remove the electrical connector from the high-pressure fuel pump. Disconnect the intake air ducting to the throttle body and move the ducting aside for access to the high-pressure pump. On 3.0L models and 2013 and later 3.6L models, remove the thermostat housing. Loosen the fuel line fitting at the injector rail and the Inlet/outlet lines at the high-pressure pump. Disconnect the flexible fuel line from the high-pressure pump and move it aside. Remove the metal fuel lines from the high-pressure pump. Remove and discard the two fuel pump mounting bolts and remove the pump. To install, simply reverse the removal process. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
