The glass and related regulator parts are removed as an assembly, with the glass then separated from the regulator and rebonded on a bench. (6mm) drill, a rivet tool like GM J-29022, and aluminum 1/4 in. x 1/2 in. rivets. These procedures are for the front and, where applicable, rear doors. Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable, especially in vehicles with power windows and locks. With the window in the up position, remove the door inner panel, peel off the water deflector, tape the glass to the door frame, remove the lower sash channel bolts, drive out the centers of the regulator mounting rivets, drill out the rivets, disconnect any electrical connections, and remove the regulator. For reinstallation, position the new regulator, install rivets, and reverse the removal steps. For 1984-87 Coupe models, mark attachment locations, use a 1/4 in. drill, U-nuts, and attaching screws. Remove the trim panels, water deflector, use doorstops to hold the window, remove cam and guide screws, disconnect the regulator if it's electric, remove the regulator rivets, detach the sash channel cam, and remove the regulator. Reinstallation involves attaching the regulator with screws and reversing the removal process. For Sedans, follow similar steps with duct tape, center punch, drill bit, U-nuts, screws, removing armrest and panels, detaching the water deflector, marking and removing cam screws, disconnecting the handle or wiring harness, driving out regulator rivets, removing the regulator, and reversing these steps for installation, ensuring screws are tightened to the specified torque.
