How do I remove the brake light switch and brake pedal position sensor for Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the brake light switch, start by removing the insulator panel beneath the instrument panel. The brake light switch can be found at the top of the brake pedal bracket. Disconnect the wiring connector(s) from the switch. Depress the brake pedal and compress the switch's lock tabs. Rotate the switch counterclockwise while pulling to remove it. To install the new switch, ensure that the pedal is at the top of its travel. Rotate the switch clockwise while inserting it into the mounting bracket and connect the electrical connector(s). The switch should be fully seated against the pedal when the pedal is released. Apply the brake pedal, release it, and verify that the brake lights go off when the pedal is released. To remove the brake pedal position sensor, disconnect the electrical connector. Mark the relationship of the sensor to its mount and remove the fastener and the sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal, aligning the sensor exactly with the marks made.
