    Q:
How to properly replace coil springs on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
Jack up the rear of the vehicle and support both sides on jackstands at the frame, in front of the rear axle, while also supporting the rear axle with an adjustable lifting device. Disconnect the shock absorber and detach the upper control arm at the differential. If equipped, disconnect the stabilizer bar and remove any brake hose supports, disconnecting the brake hose only if necessary. Carefully lower the axle until the tension is released from the coil spring, ensuring not to stretch the brake hose, and then remove the spring, noting the direction in which the end of the last coil is pointing for reinstallation. When starting a new coil spring, ensure that the bottom of the coil is properly inserted into the socket in the frame and into the form plate on the trailing arm. Jack the axle into place and reinstall the control arm bolt, tightening the bolts with the vehicle's weight on the springs.

    Q:
How to remove and install the front Coil Springs on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
The front spring can be removed and installed while the front of the vehicle is raised and supported on jackstands and the front wheel is removed. Lose the nut/bolt and separate the shock absorber, then the front stabilizer rod link from the lower control arm, and the brake reaction rod from the lower control arm. For safety and leverage, attach the jack about half an inch under the lower ball joint stud Before loosening the ball stud cotter pin, only turn the nut a little so as to create an opening. A ball joint removal tool will be useful to remove the stud from the steering knuckle; ontop of which, once loose, lift jack against the control arm; again, after removing the nut, one will have to separate the steering knuckle from the tapered stud. Slowly lower the jack and when the control arm is at the correct level, remove the spring from the top of the control arm and if needed from the lower figure as well. While fitting the spring , on the 1984-87 models, it must be ensured that the upper end of the spring lies in one of the two holes drilled in the lower control arm while the second hole must remain open the flat surface of the upper end of the spring must up with the straight helical coils downwards. Last but not the least, follow the last steps installed but in reverse order and finally tighten the bolts of control arm frame as per the settings according to model year.
