Tighten the piston rod nut to the specified torque with the spring compressed, release the tension on the spring, and re-install the strut assembly in the vehicle.

The steering linkage and suspension components should be checked periodically as worn or damaged components can lead to excessive tire wear, poor ride quality, reduced fuel economy, and compromised vehicle handling. To check the struts and shock absorbers, park the vehicle on level ground, turn off the engine, and set the parking brake. Push down at each corner of the vehicle and observe if it stops moving and returns to a level position within one or two bounces. If the vehicle continues to move or fails to return to its original position, it may indicate worn or weak shock absorbers. Repeat this check at each corner of the vehicle. Raise the vehicle and inspect the struts and shock absorbers for any signs of fluid leakage or damage. Ensure they are securely mounted and undamaged, and replace them as a set if necessary. Visually inspect the steering and suspension components for any damage, distortion, leaks, or worn seals, boots, and bushings. Examine the control arm bushings and check for movement at the steering knuckle-to-control arm balljoint. Replace the balljoint if there is any movement. Finally, check for play in the steering system components by pushing and pulling on the front tires and inspect the tie-rod ends for looseness or wear.

Remove the lower nut and bolt of the shock absorber.

Detach the stabilizer bar link from the strut and support the steering knuckle with a floor jack. Then unscrew the nuts securing the strut to the steering knuckle and tap the bolts out with a hammer.
