Q:
How to remove the camshaft and camshaft bearings in Buick Century and Regal? Posted by Customer
A:
Remove the camshaft and camshaft bearings in 196, 231, 252, and 350 Buick Engines by first removing the timing chain and cover. If the engine has air conditioning, the condenser should be unbolted and moved aside before removing the radiator. Proceed by disassembling the hydraulic lifters carefully and sliding the camshaft forward to avoid bearing surface damage. To extract the camshaft, assemble a puller with the appropriate components, such as the puller screw, expanding collet, and back-up nut, then insert this assembly into the camshaft bearing for removal. Repeat this process for each bearing, except the front one, which can be extracted using a spacer. For installation, reverse these steps, ensuring that the camshaft bearings are replaced as a complete set. For 265 and 301 Pontiac Engines, remove the camshaft and camshaft bearings by following a similar procedure as above, including the removal of the intake manifold, lifters, pushrods, and rocker arms. If the car has air conditioning, discharge the system and remove the condenser. Utilize a specific set of tools for bearing removal and installation, ensuring the correct order of removal and installation for each bearing. Afterward, lubricate the camshaft, align the timing marks, and reinstall it, along with the distributor. The remaining components should be reinstalled in reverse order. In the case of 307, 350, and 403 Oldsmobile Gasoline Engines, removal involves disconnecting the battery, draining and removing the radiator, and disassembling various components, including the intake manifold, valve lifters, and timing chain and sprockets. Carefully extract the camshaft, replacing the camshaft bearings as a set and lubricating the camshaft and bearings before reinstallation. Align the timing marks and reinstall the distributor. Reassemble the engine components in the reverse order, paying attention to specific steps and precautions. For 263 and 350 Oldsmobile Diesel Engines, removing the camshaft requires the removal of the injection pump drive and driven gears, intake manifold, valve lifters, and re-timing of the injection pump. Discharge the air conditioning system if equipped. Remove the camshaft and gears, ensuring proper alignment and replacing both gears if necessary. Lubricate the camshaft and cam bearings, then carefully slide the camshaft back into position. Realign and install the gears, injection pump, and remaining components in reverse order, following specific guidelines for end-play adjustments and timing.
