Q:
How do you remove the timing chain on V8 engine for Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali,Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the timing chain on an engine, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable and draining the cooling system and engine oil. Remove the water pump and crankshaft balancer, followed by disconnecting the wiring from the camshaft position sensor and camshaft position actuator magnet. Then, remove the timing chain cover bolts, taking care not to damage the cover, and remove the oil pump. For engines without camshaft position actuators, loosen the camshaft sprocket bolts and rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks align, then remove the camshaft sprocket and chain as an assembly. For engines with camshaft position actuators, rotate the crankshaft to align the timing marks, remove the solenoid valve, and detach the actuator assembly and chain. Inspect the timing chain tensioner, camshaft, and crankshaft sprockets for wear or damage. If necessary, remove the sprocket from the crankshaft. During installation, clean the gasket surfaces and align the crankshaft sprocket with the Woodruff key. Loop the new chain over the camshaft sprocket and mesh it with the crankshaft sprocket. For engines with camshaft position actuators, ensure the timing marks align correctly. Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt or the actuator valve to specified torque, compress and secure the tensioner, then install the oil pump. Clean the timing chain cover, install it with a new gasket, and use an alignment tool to secure it properly. Install a new crankshaft oil seal and, finally, complete the reinstallation steps in reverse order. Fill the cooling system and engine oil, replace the oil filter, and check for any oil or coolant leaks during engine operation.

Q:
How do you remove the timing chain and Sprocket on 4.3L V6 engine for Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the timing chain cover, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and draining the cooling system. Then, remove the cooling fan, water pump, drivebelt pulley, and vibration damper. Next, remove the crankshaft position sensor and the wiring harness nut. After that, remove the oil pan and disconnect the wiring harness clips from the front cover. Remove the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor with its jumper wiring harness. Then, remove the cover bolts and separate the timing chain cover from the block. Remove the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring and measure the timing chain free play. If necessary, replace the chain and sprockets. Make sure the sprocket timing marks are aligned and release the timing chain tensioner. To install the timing chain cover, clean the engine block sealing surfaces and align the keyway in the crankshaft sprocket. Press the sprocket onto the crankshaft and align the balance shaft gears. Position the crankshaft and loop the chain over the camshaft sprocket. Apply thread locking compound to the camshaft sprocket bolt threads and tighten them. Install the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring and apply RTV sealant to the engine block sealing surface. Position the new front cover and oil seal assembly, then tighten the cover retaining bolts. Finally, install the oil pan, vibration damper, and crankshaft position sensor.
