    Q:
How are the electrical circuits safeguarded and what steps should be taken when a fuse blows on Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
Electrical wiring of the vehicle protected with fuses, circuit breakers and fusible links where each fuse is assigned to a particular circuit that is indicated on the fuse panel. The under hood fuse/relay panel is on the right-front corner of the vehicle when facing the engine compartment, the battery fuse/fusible link block is above the battery, and the instrument panel fuse block is located behind a hinged panel in the driver compartment knee bolster. There are small, medium and large fuses used and while medium and large fuses can be lifted out by hands, small fuses require the use of pliers or a plastic fuse puller. Checking fuses is mandatory when an electrical component has a problem, employing a test light to differentiate between lack of power at the terminal tips; the lack of power on one side but power on the other shows that the fuse is blown, which you can also tell by the naked eye. While fuses can be swapped since the physical appearance different types of fuses can be very similar, it is imperative that the correct type of fuse be installed since having different rating will defeat the purpose of the fuses. In case the fuse is replaced and blows again, there might be a problem, usually a short circuit caused by spoilt wiring that should be worked on before replacement of the fuses. Main circuit fuses which have replaced the fusible links have different sizes and current ratings ranging from 5A to 400A to maintain exactly the correct current and shield electronic systems from voltages normally in or above the battery compartment, some of which must be disassembled to replace a fuse. For circuits such as power windows and seats, there exist circuit breakers which are self-correcting when there is momentary overload; if however they do not correct themselves, then immediate inspection is required. A basic check is where the circuit breaker is pulled partly out of its slot and its terminal checked with a voltmeter to see that battery voltage is present on both ends; should voltage be felt only at one end then replacement is required.

    Q:
How to check and replace fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links on Pontiac G6? Posted by Customer
    A:
Protection of the electrical circuits of the vehicle is provided by fuses, circuit breakers and fusible links The fuse as well as relay boxes are found in the engine compartment, in the instrument panel and also in the trunk. Every fuse corresponds to a particular circuit, the designation of which can be found on the cover of the fuse panel; if the cover is illegible or absent, an entire list of all fuses and relays is provided in the description of the car. In essence, there are miniatures fuses in the fuse blocks and in case an electrical component has a problem in functioning, the first thing that should be checked is the fuse to see whether it has been blown or not using a test light to probe the exposed terminals on the fuse blocks; if the test light glows on one side and there is a refusal to glow on the other side the fuse is considered blown and may be visually confirmed by observing Again, due to their design, it is possible to insert a fuse of one rating into a holder while physically the holder can take a higher current fuse but this should not be done because fuses of the correct rating for each electrical circuit are meant to be different and can have the amperage value molded on their bodies. If a fusible link fails in place the first time, it should not be put back in unless the problem, which is typically a short circuit attributable to a broken or decayed wire, has been addressed. Some circuits are protected by fusible links, used in a place where the circuit is not fused or where high current is used, for instance, between the alternator and the starter motor; fusible links are set to melt if there is too much current. Whereas if a fusible link gets blown particularly when too much current is drawn to a circuit that is not capable of handling such current, the only option is to replace the link but if the replacement link also blows, then it is wise to 'debug' the circuit before fixing another link.

    Q:
What are fusible links, and where are they commonly used for the 2009 Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
Fusible links are used in circuits that are not ordinarily fused, such as the alternator circuit.

    Q:
What are the different sizes of fuses, and how can they be removed for the 2017 GMC Acadia? Posted by Customer
    A:
There are different sizes of fuses, including small, medium, and large, all with the same blade terminal design. The medium and large fuses can be removed by hand, but the small fuses require pliers or a fuse-puller tool.
