- A:To release the parking brake, start by loosening the rear wheel lugnuts if you're removing a rear cable. Then, raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands before removing the wheel. For the front cable, you may need to back off the adjusting nut to release tension. Detach the parking brake pedal assembly from the kick panel and pull the plug on the end of the cable out of its hole in the ratcheting cam. Squeeze the tangs on the parking brake cable ferrule and slip the cable through its bracket. Underneath the vehicle, disengage the front cable from the connector located forward of the equalizer.
