- A:To remove and install the rear brake drum, raise the rear of the car and support it with jackstands, remove the wheel and tire assemblies, make sure the parking brake is off, and back off the brake adjuster if necessary. Tap the drum with a hammer in several places if it is stubborn. Installation is in the reverse order of removal and the brakes should be adjusted after installation. Inspect the drum for any cracks, scores, grooves, or an out-of-round condition. Light scoring can be removed with emery cloth or fine sandpaper, and if the scoring is extensive, have the drum turned, but never more than 0.060 in. (1.5mm).Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
