Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Detach the fresh air intake duct from the mouth of the Air Filter Box. Remove the Air Filter Box cover nuts or wing nut. Remove the Air Filter Box and the gasket between the Air Filter Box housing and the adapter. Discard the old gasket. Be sure to remove the paper from the new gasket before installing it. If you are replacing the Air Filter Box, installation is the reverse of removal. If you are planning to remove the TBI unit, the intake manifold, a cylinder head, etc., remove the adapter nuts, the adapter assembly, and the gasket between the adapter and the TBI assembly. Discard the old gasket. Be sure to remove the paper from the new gasket before installing it. Installation is the reverse of removal. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor, which is located in the air duct, just before the throttle body. Detach the crankcase ventilation hose (if equipped) from the air intake duct. On CSFI engines, disconnect the electrical connector from the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. Remove the air intake duct from the Air Filter Box and throttle body. Unclip the latches securing the Air Filter Box top cover. Remove the top cover and air filler element. Remove the bolts and screws attaching the Air Filter Box lower housing to the radiator support and upper fan shroud. Remove it from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal.
