Q:
How to remove fuel injectors and Fuel Rail on Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the fuel injectors on a 2009 and earlier model, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, remove the upper intake manifold and disconnect the fuel supply line at the fuel rail. Disconnect the electrical connector for the main fuel injector harness, as well as the electrical connectors for the coolant temperature and camshaft position sensors. Disconnect the electrical connector from each injector. Remove the fuel rail mounting fasteners and remove both fuel rails and their injectors as an assembly. Release the fuel injector retaining clips and remove each injector from its bore in the fuel rail, discarding the upper and lower o-rings. For installation, coat the new upper o-rings with clean engine oil and slide them into place on each injector. Coat the new lower o-rings with clean engine oil and install them on the lower ends of the injectors. Coat the outside surface of each upper o-ring with clean engine oil and insert each injector into its bore in the fuel rail. Install the isolators with new seals on the injectors, if equipped. Install the injectors and fuel rail assembly on the intake manifold and tighten the fuel rail mounting fasteners securely. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. Reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal and turn the ignition switch to ON to activate the fuel pump and check for fuel leaks. For a 2010 and later model, the removal process is slightly different. Start by relieving the fuel system pressure and removing the fuel rail feed pipe. Remove the intake manifold and carefully remove the foam fuel injector insulator, fuel injector electrical connectors, and any remaining electrical connections, wiring clips, and retainers. Use a special injector removal tool to pull the injectors out of the cylinder head. To install, use new o-rings lubricated with clean engine oil and install them into a clean injector bore using the special sizing tool. Start the engine and verify there are no fuel leaks.
