Q:
How to remove Clutch Disc,Clutch Fork,Pressure Plate and Release Bearing? Posted by Customer
A:
To access the clutch components, typically, the transmission needs to be removed from the vehicle while leaving the engine in place. If the engine is being overhauled, it's recommended to check the clutch for wear and replace worn parts, considering the relative low cost of clutch components compared to the effort required for access. To begin the removal, take out the transmission from the vehicle, supporting the engine with an engine support fixture or hoist while the transmission is out. The clutch release cylinder assembly can remain attached to the transmission, but it's advisable to replace it if the transmission is out. To support the clutch disc during removal, use a clutch alignment tool through the clutch disc hub. Carefully inspect the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing marks, making sure they align during installation. Loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts in a criss-cross pattern, holding the pressure plate securely and removing the bolts followed by the pressure plate and clutch disc. During inspection, check the flywheel for defects and have it machined flat if needed. Inspect the clutch disc lining for wear and damage, replacing it if necessary. The release cylinder assembly should also be replaced, along with the clutch disc. Check the pressure plate for defects and glazing, removing light glazing if present. If the surface is damaged, replace the pressure plate. Examine the pilot bearing at the end of the crankshaft for excessive wear or damage and replace it if needed. For installation, clean the flywheel and pressure plate machined surfaces thoroughly with brake cleaner or other appropriate solvents to ensure no oil or grease is present. Position the clutch disc and pressure plate against the flywheel using an alignment tool. Make sure the disc is installed correctly, and tighten the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts gradually in a criss-cross pattern, centering the clutch disc with the alignment tool. Apply high-temperature grease to the transmission input shaft bearing retainer, and if removed, install the clutch release cylinder assembly. Finally, install the transmission and all the previously removed components.
