Chevrolet 12612571 Oxygen Sensor

The oxygen sensor in an auto's exhaust system interacts with the oxygen to generate a voltage output showing how much of this gas is left in the exhaust. The PCM uses this feedback signal to compute the necessary fuel injector pulse width and control A/F ratio. For minimum emissions and fuel economy, the best ratio comprises 14.7 parts of air to 1 part of fuel. To ascertain whether or not it is working properly, the post-converter oxygen sensor monitors the efficiency of the catalytic converter. Model and emissions package determine how the oxygen sensors are configured. It operates correctly when there are good electrical connections, sufficient air circulation, it has reached its operating temperature range, and unleaded fuel is used. The PCM detects sensor problems and sets DTCs. In order to replace an oxygen sensor on your vehicle, raise it, locate the sensor, disconnect its electrical connector. Using a wrench or an oxygen sensor socket remove the sensor from its place. In case you want to reuse that old one clean out threads and put on some anti-seize compound on them. After removal of O2 sensor it should be reinstalled firmly following prescribed torque specifications for this particular device.
