To remove a balljoint using the pickle fork/wedge method, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the wheel and then remove the cotter pin from the balljoint stud. Loosen the nut a few turns but don't remove it yet. Use a pickle fork-type balljoint wedge to separate the balljoint from the steering knuckle by hammering it in. Finally, remove the balljoint stud nut. Alternatively, you can use the puller method by following the same initial steps of loosening the lug nuts and raising the vehicle. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the nut on the balljoint stud. Install a special puller and pop the balljoint stud from the steering knuckle. If the special puller is not available, you can try striking the steering knuckle near the side of the ball joint with a hammer while pulling the ball joint out. Remove the nut and pull the balljoint stud out of the steering knuckle. For both methods, the installation process involves removing the control arm and drilling out the balljoint rivets. Install the new balljoint using the supplied bolts, making sure to tighten them to the specified torque. The remaining steps involve reversing the removal process, tightening the balljoint-to-knuckle nuts and control arm bolts to the torque specifications, and ensuring proper alignment of the front wheels.
