- A:To remove the brake light switch on 1994 and later models, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. If necessary, remove the driver's side knee bolster. Then, remove the retainer securing the brake switch and master cylinder pushrod to the brake pedal. Detach the brake light switch and master cylinder pushrod from the brake pedal and disconnect the electrical connector from the switch. Finally, remove the switch from the vehicle. To install the brake light switch, place it over the master cylinder pushrod and attach it to the brake pedal using the retaining clip. Connect the harness electrical connector to the switch. The remaining installation steps are the reverse of removal. This type of switch is self-adjusting, so no adjustment is required.
