- A:To replace the shock absorber on a vehicle, start by blocking the front wheels and raising the rear of the vehicle with jackstands. Once the shock absorber is removed, installation is the reverse of removal. Raise the lower control arm with a floor jack to simulate normal ride height and tighten the fasteners to the proper torque specifications.
