    Q:
How to install a harmonic balancer in V6 engine on Chevrolet Camaro? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure needs a new harmonic balancer bolt and a balancer installation tool that is accessible justified by specialized tool makers. First of all, you should pull the cable with the negative connection end off the battery. Lift up the front part of the vehicle until the weight is being borne on jackstands securely. Take out the belts and the splash shield. Third, take off the starter motor, turning the ring gear teeth on the flywheel/driveplate with a prybar coming through the rear of the engine block while loosening the center bolt of the harmonic balancer pulley. It is recommended that the balancer be pulled off the crankshaft with a three-jaw puller; it is important that the jaws do not grip the outer ring of the balancer but rather the hub of it. So as to avoid damaging the threads of the crankshaft, extend an Allen-head bolt into the crankshaft nose in which the taper of the puller will bear. Clean the oil seal end of the crankshaft with clean engine oil and then place the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer on the crankshaft making sure that the groove in the hub fits to the Woodruff key. Take the crankshaft and make sure that it is held firmly and try using the previous harmonic balancer bolt to fix the balancer on the crankshaft. Replace a harmonic balancer bolt and tighten to the next specified torque and angle in a two-step sequence with the torque angle gauge. The continuation of the installation is done in the reverse of the removal processes followed above.

    Q:
What tools and procedures are required for installing a new harmonic balancer in V8 engine on Chevrolet Camaro? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure calls for a new harmonic balancer bolt, which together with the balancer installation tools as well as the flywheel/drive plate ring gear holding tool are available from harmonic balancer tool makers only. First, take off the ground cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then the lug nuts of the front wheel, lift the front part of the car and support it on jack stands placing the parking brake. Pull off the wheels; then, in the interior, you get rid of the steering gear, splash shield, and drivebelt. Then there is a starter motor to be taken off, and what is called the flywheel/driveplate ring gear holder. For the models with manual transmission, draw a locating mark from the end of the crankshaft to the harmonic balancer, the balancer is not keyed or keywayed for positioning. Remove the balancer bolt and check the distance from the balancer to the end of the crankshaft snout for installation and installer should not put new harmonic balancer bolt and tighten without measuring the balancer for proper depth required for it. To remove the balancer, fitted on the crankshaft nose a three-jaw puller so that the jaws will grip only the hub and not the outer ring and to protect the threads use the correct adapter. It should be noted that on some models there may be a shift of weight balances from the former balancer to the new one. If present, fit the balancer washer, align the crankshaft pulley/balancer to the crankshaft and to the earlier made marks. For automatic transmission models, make certain the slot in the hub fits on the Woodruff key of the crankshaft. Slide in the harmonic balancer installation tool to fit the crankshaft pulley/balancer onto the crankshaft, as it is a fitting which cannot be done otherwise and then screw in the original bolt and tighten with an initial torque of 240 fl-lbs or 330 Nm. Once the old bolt has been taken out, double check the crankshaft snout end to balancer face measurement is correct as earlier measured; if not correct the measurement correctly. Last, replace the harmonic balancer bolt and fasten it in a clockwise direction with progressive tightening of 90 degrees in the three subsequent steps, in the total recommended torque with the proper rotational angle in the clockwise direction; reinstall the harmonic balancer in the reverse manner of the removal process.

    Q:
What are the steps involved in installing a new harmonic balancer on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
Specific for this procedure are the Counterfeit balancer bolt, balancer installation tools and the flywheel driveplate ring gear holding tools which are available to tool manufacturers, only. First remove the nut of the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, free the front wheel lug nuts, lift the front end of the car and support it on jackstands and apply the parking brake. Pull off the wheels, pull the under-vehicle splash shield, if there is any, and the drivebelts. Subsequently, it is necessary to remove steering gear as well as the starter motor; in addition, at this stage, one should install a flywheel/driveplate ring gear holder. For the models of manual transmission, one should make a locating mark from the extremity of the crankshaft to the harmonic balancer; it should be noted that there are some LS models that do not utilize a key for positioning and as such any marks made before the removal process would be quite vital in the process of reinstallation. Bolt on the balancer and set the distance from the balancer to the end of the crankshaft snout to the original measurements before taking it off, the end of the crankshaft snout should be recessed into the balancer by 2.38 to 3.5 mm. Installation: To remove the balancer from the shaft, use the three-jaw puller placing the jaws on the hub only; if fitted remove the washer from one end of the balancer. Make sure that the hand of the proper adapter is placed properly on the crankshaft nose to avoid stripping of the threads and if there are balance weights such as on the old balancer, transfer them to the new balancer. If there is such a balancer washer, then it should be installed to the end of the balancer, the crankshaft pulley/balancer has to be placed on the crankshaft and aligned with the earlier made marks. For automatic transmission models, it is possible to align the grooves on the hub to the Woodruff key, located in the crankshaft. Employ the services of a harmonic balancer installation tool to fit the crankshaft pulley/balancer onto the crankshaft while fitting the old harmonic balancer bolt to about 240 ft-lbs. If the current crankshaft pulley bolt appears worn out, then, it should be removed and alongside measures the distance from the end of the crankshaft snout to balancer upon discovering that it is not right, correct it. Then, torque and also angle to 270 degrees a new harmonic balancer bolt in order to complete the procedure for installation to reverse the steps of removal.
