When reconnecting the battery, it is recommended to connect the positive cable first and the negative cable last.

Battery straps and handlers are available at most auto parts stores for reasonable prices. They make it easier to remove and carry the battery. To remove the battery, open the battery box cover and loosen the nut attaching the negative battery cable terminal to the battery. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Slide open the mega-fuse cover towards the rear of the vehicle and disconnect the cable from the positive battery terminal. Open the battery positive cable cover and disconnect the positive (+) battery cable terminal, then unclip the mega-fuse box and move it out of the way. Remove the two bolts and nut and remove the battery cover hold-down. Use a screwdriver to release the tab and detach the connector from the battery cover. Pull up and remove the battery cover. Remove the battery hold-down clamp. Lift out the battery. Be careful-it's heavy. If you are replacing the battery, make sure you get one that's identical, with the same dimensions, amperage rating, cold cranking rating, etc. Remove the heat shield from the old battery and install it on the new battery. Installation is the reverse of removal. Connect the positive cable first and the negative cable last. After removing the battery, detach the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) bracket from the battery tray. Remove the fasteners securing the battery tray. Detach the harness from the battery tray and remove the tray. Installation is reverse of removal.
