    Q:
How to locate and test the Ignition Coil on Chevrolet Metro? Posted by Gervin C.
    A:
Look for the ignition coil on the engine firewall wall. To check the coil's power, take off the cap found on Geo Metros' ignition coil and connect your voltmeter to the positive coil terminal. When the battery isn't charging, inspect the engine wire harness, the connector for the ignition coil, and the fuse panel beneath the hood for a blown fuse. Unplug the battery cable from its negative post. Pull the wire of the coil high tension cable while turning the boot firmly. Unscrew the protection cover from the coil and detach the electrical connections from the two electrical terminals on the coil body. Uninstall the coil by following steps: disconnect the high tension wire, unplug both positive and negative primary terminals, unscrew the mount bolts, and lift out the coil. To inspect the coil's condition, hook up an ohmmeter and see how much resistance is between its primary terminals. Match your reading against the official resistance requirement and switch the coil if your numbers don't match. Locate the wire from the positive power source and the high tension side, checking resistance, and swap the coil when the readings are beyond the acceptable range. If your testing finds that external resistance readings are higher or lower than the manufacturer's levels, you must get rid of the coil. First, remove your old coil's mounting bracket by unscrewing the clamp. Then put it on the new coil.
