    Q:
How to remove the intake manifold and cylinder head assembly on Chevrolet Nova? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the intake manifold, first drain the radiator and take off the air cleaner housing. Disconnect the battery cables, upper radiator and heater hose at the manifold, accelerator linkage at the pedal, fuel line at the carburetor, coil and temperature sender switch wires, power brake hose, distributor spark advance hose, and the necessary emission control and crankcase ventilation hoses. Remove the distributor cap, marking the distributor body and rotor position if applicable, then take off the distributor clamp and distributor, positioning the cap backwards away from the manifold. Next, remove the alternator upper bracket along with the coil and its bracket. Detach the manifold-to-head attaching bolts and lift off the manifold with the carburetor. If replacing the manifold, also remove the carburetor, water outlet, thermostat, heater hose adapter, choke coil, and EGR valve as needed. For the exhaust manifold, take off the air injection reactor air manifold and tubes if necessary, then disconnect the battery ground cable and air cleaner pre-heater air stove. Remove the manifold to exhaust flangenuts and lower the pipe assembly, hanging it from the frame to avoid undue loading. Next, remove the end mounting bolts followed by the center ones, then lift the manifold away from the engine. For the head assembly, if the engine is installed, remove the appropriate crankcase ventilation hoses and disconnect the wiring harness from the clips on the rocker covers, removing the cover retaining screws to lift off the covers. Drain the coolant from the cylinder block if the engine is installed. Loosen the rocker arm nut for each valve until the rocker can pivot, then remove the pushrod and valve lifter, placing them in a rack for reinstallation. Remove the valve rocker arm nuts, balls, and rocker arms, then unscrew the cylinder head bolts one turn at a time before removing them. With assistance, lift the cylinder head(s) from the block, tapping upwards with a block of wood and a hammer if they are stuck, and place the head(s) on a clean workbench for further disassembly.

    Q:
How to disassemble Cylinder Head on Chevrolet Nova? Posted by Customer
    A:
Using a suitable valve spring compressor, compress each spring in turn to permit the locks to be removed. Release the compressor and remove the spring cap or rotator, shield (where applicable), spring and damper, then remove the oil seals and spring shims. Remove the valves and place them in the rack in their proper sequence with their associated pushrods. Unscrew and remove each spark plug, if not already done.
