Q:
How to remove and replace fuel injectors and Fuel Rail? Posted by Customer
A:
Fuel injectors have different flow rates and should not be interchanged with injectors from a different application. To begin the removal process, relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For inline engines, remove the intake manifold and clean the fuel rail/fuel injector area. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line, fuel injector harness connector, and fuel line fitting(s). For VS engines, remove the outlet duct from the air filter housing and label and disconnect interfering engine hoses, wiring harnesses, and electrical components. Remove the purge control solenoid valve and disconnect the quick-connect fuel filling from the fuel rail. For all engines, remove the fuel rail attaching bolts and apply gentle and even outward pressure on the fuel rail to free it from the cylinder head. Disconnect the electrical connector from the injector(s) to be removed and remove the retaining clip(s) and injector(s) from the fuel rail assembly. Replace the injector O-rings, lubricate them with clean engine oil, and press the injector into the fuel rail until seated. Install the injector retaining clips and inspect and clean the cylinder head injector holes if necessary. The remainder of the installation process is the reverse of removal, ensuring the fuel rail mounting bolts are tightened. After installation, activate the fuel pump by turning the ignition switch to On without operating the starter. Cycle the ignition On and Off several times and check for fuel leakage in the fuel lines, fuel rail, and injector.
