    Q:
How to replace Engine Mount and transmission mount while keeping them in V6 engine on Pontiac Firebird? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the mounts have become hard, split, or separated from the metal backing, they must be replaced, this also can be done with the engine/transmission still in the car. To remove the front mount, unbolt the throughbolt and the nut on the front end; to install the mount, lift the engine with a hoist or a jack placed under the wooden block on the oil pan. After that, unbolt the mont and frame bracket assembly from the crossmember, place the new mount in its place, install the throughbolt and nut and tighten all the bolts to the required torque. The rear mount, first of all, require the crossmember-to-mount bolts to be taken off and then lift the transmission to drain slightly using a jack. Then, take off the mount-to-transmission bolts and the mount as well as the bolt for the output shaft-to-transmission. take a new mount and place it, drop down the transmission and make the crossmember to mount bolts aligned before final tightening where all the bolts to the specified torque.

    Q:
How to replace hard, split, or separated Engine Mount in four cylinder engine on Pontiac Firebird? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the rubber mounts are hard, cracked or separated from the metal backing, they have to be replaced, this can be done with the engine/transmission still in situ. For removal of front mounts the throughbolt and nut have to be removed and the hoist or jack can be used to lift the engine with the help of wood placed under the oil pan. In its turn, it is necessary to take out the mount and frame bracket assembly from the crossmember, place the new mount, throughbolt and locknut and tighten all the bolts to the required torque. As for the rear mount, therefore, loosen the crossmember-to-mount bolts and accordingly elevate the transmission using a jack. Third, take out the mount-to-transmission bolts, and then take out the mount. To do that, it is necessary to install the new mount, lower the transmission and align the crossmember-to-mount bolts before one tightens all engaged bolts to the required degree of torque.
