To replace the water pump on 1.5L engines, start by draining the cooling system and loosening the right front wheel lug nuts. Raise the vehicle, secure it on jackstands, and remove the wheel and inner fender splash shield. Next, remove the drivebelt and drivebelt tensioner, disengage the wiring harness retainers, and move the wiring harness away from the water pump. Remove the water pump and pulley housing bolts, ensuring it's free from the housing by gently tapping with a soft-faced hammer if necessary. Clean the old gasket seal from the mounting surfaces, clean the mounting bolt threads and threaded holes, and compare the replacement pump with the old one. Use a new gasket during installation, finger-tighten the mounting bolts, and then tighten them to the specified torque. Refill the cooling system, start the engine, and check for leaks. For water pump housing replacement on 1.5L engines, begin by removing the charge air cooler inlet air tube and the thermostat housing. Disconnect hose clamps and hoses from the thermostat water bypass tube, remove the tube bracket bolt, tube-to-water pump housing bolts, and the tube with the gasket. Also, remove the turbocharger oil feed pipe retaining clip and disconnect the pipe. Remove the engine oil cooler and the turbocharger coolant inlet pipe. Remove the water pump housing bolts and clean the old gasket seal from the engine surface and water pump housing. Use a new gasket during installation, finger-tighten the mounting bolts, and then tighten them to the specified torque. Refill the cooling system, start the engine, and check for leaks. For 2.0L and 2.5L engines, remove the exhaust manifold heat shield and thermostat housing. Disengage the wiring harness retainers and move the wiring harness away from the water pump. Remove the thermostat bypass tube fasteners and the tube, along with its gasket. Remove the water pump housing bolts and clean the mating surface of the engine. Compare the replacement pump with the old one, place the gasket and water pump into position, and install the new mounting bolts finger-tight. Tighten the water pump housing mounting bolts in a criss-cross pattern to the specified torque. The remaining installation steps are to tighten the water pump pulley bolts to the specified torque, refill the cooling system, start the engine, and check for leaks.
