- A:Because of changes made during production, auto technicians can't simply replace the crankshaft sensor or reassemble the crankshaft pulley when working on 2000 or newer models of these PVMs. They need special software for their PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to be programmed, which is best handled by licensed repair shops. The CKP sensor sits near the top of the engine block, underneath the part that brings air into the engine from the inlet. Follow these instructions to take out the CKP sensor: Unplug its electrical wires, disconnect and then remove the sensor bolt before you can remove the sensor.
