Q:
What is the function and components of a vehicle's Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system,Purge Valve,Fuel Pressure Sensor and Vapor Canister for Cadillac DeVille and DTS? Posted by Customer
A:
The Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system in a vehicle is designed to capture and store fuel vapors from the fuel tank and intake manifold. This system includes a charcoal-filled canister and various connecting lines that link the canister to the fuel tank, throttle body, and outside air. The canister is typically located beneath the vehicle, adjacent to the fuel filter. Fuel vapors are collected from the fuel tank, throttle body, and intake manifold and stored in the canister during engine inactivity. When the engine operates, these stored vapors are purged from the canister by intake airflow and consumed during combustion. The purge valve solenoid, controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and sometimes accompanied by a tank pressure sensor on newer models, is situated near the throttle body. While the EVAP system rarely fails, older vehicles may develop leaks, causing fuel vapors to escape and potentially leading to environmental issues and fuel wastage. Signs of a malfunction include a strong fuel odor, poor idle, stalling, or diminished driveability, often due to issues like a malfunctioning purge valve, damaged canister, cracked hoses, or incorrect hose connections. Detecting leaks can be challenging due to the system's complex tubing and connections, but a visual inspection under the vehicle can help identify visible problems, and if the source remains elusive, professional system pressure testing is recommended. If diagnosed, component replacement, such as the EVAP canister purge valve, EVAP vent valve, EVAP canister, or fuel tank pressure sensor, can usually be performed at home following the appropriate removal and installation procedures.

How to remove and install a fuel pressure sensor and high-pressure fuel pump on Cadillac Escalade? Posted by Customer
A:
Remove the engine covers. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the intake manifold and the fuel pump/fuel rail insulator. The fuel rail fuel pressure sensor is located at the rear of the left-side fuel rail. Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor electrical connector. Unscrew and remove the sensor from the end of the fuel rail. Clean the threads in the fuel rail of any gasoline. Apply a single drop of oil on the new sensor threads, then install the sensor and hand tighten it. Remove the sensor, apply another drop of clean engine oil on the threads, then reinstall the sensor and tighten it. Connect the sensor electrical connector. The remaining installation steps are the reverse of the removal process. Remove the low-pressure fuel feed line bracket bolt and disconnect the feed line at the pump. Using a flare-nut wrench, unscrew the high-pressure line fittings between the fuel rail and fuel pump and discard the pipe as a new one must be used. Disconnect the electrical connector from the high-pressure fuel pump. Remove the high-pressure fuel pump bolts, then remove the cover, pump, and gasket. Always replace the bolts and pump gasket with new ones. With the pump removed, rotate the engine by hand and ensure that the camshaft lobe is at its base circle (lowest point) before attempting to install the pump. Lubricate the pump roller with engine oil. Using a NEW gasket, position the pump and cover onto the valley cover and tighten the bolts evenly, one turn at a time, from side to side. Tighten the bolts. The remaining installation steps are the reverse of the removal process. Clean the high-pressure fuel line fittings on the pump and crossover pipe, then apply a drop of clean engine oil to the threads of each fitting. Install the NEW high-pressure fuel line, tightening the fittings to the torque specified in the Specifications. The remaining installation steps are the reverse of the removal procedure. Reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal, then start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

Q:
What is the purpose of the Evaporative Emissions Control (EVAP) system and how to replace Purge Valve,Fuel Pressure Sensor and Canister for Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
A:
The Evaporative Emissions Control (EVAP) system is designed to prevent the escape of fuel system vapors containing unburned hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. Fuel vapors trapped in the fuel tank expand on warm days until they reach a specific pressure threshold. At this point, the fuel vapors are directed from the fuel tank through the fuel vapor vent valve and the fuel vapor control valve to the EVAP canister, where they are temporarily stored until they can be consumed by the engine during normal operation. When conditions are suitable, such as when the engine is warmed up, the vehicle is at speed, or there's a moderate to heavy load on the engine, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) opens the canister purge solenoid. This allows fuel vapors to be drawn from the canister into the intake manifold, where they mix with the air/fuel mixture before being used in the combustion chambers. The EVAP system consists of various components, including the EVAP canister located atop the fuel tank, which contains activated charcoal for vapor storage, the fuel tank pressure sensor on top of the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module, and the EVAP canister vent solenoid situated behind the left rear wheel well fender liner, normally open but sealing off the EVAP system for inspections and maintenance. The EVAP canister purge solenoid, under PCM control, regulates vapor flow from the canister to the intake manifold, with its duty cycle determined by the PCM based on factors like intake manifold vacuum and sensor data. Troubleshooting the EVAP system requires specialized tools and training. Common symptoms of EVAP issues include fuel odors, particularly on hot days, often caused by loose or damaged EVAP hose connections. Checking for excessive fuel vapor pressure in the fuel tank involves removing the gas cap and listening for pressure release, while a full evaluation requires professional diagnostics. For component replacement, the EVAP canister purge solenoid on V6 engines is located at the left front of the intake manifold and requires disconnecting electrical connections, lines, and a mounting bolt for removal and reinstallation. On V8 engines, the EVAP canister purge valve sits on top of the rear intake manifold part, necessitating the removal of an engine cover, disconnecting the electrical connector, and lines for removal and installation. The EVAP canister vent solenoid, located behind the left rear wheel well, can be accessed by raising and securing the vehicle, disconnecting the electrical connector and hoses, and sliding the solenoid up to remove and reinstall it. Lastly, the EVAP canister, situated atop the fuel tank, requires raising the vehicle, disconnecting electrical connectors and labeled hoses, then detaching it from its mounting bracket for removal and installation. The fuel tank pressure sensor, located on top of the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module mounting flange, involves raising the vehicle, removing the fuel tank, disconnecting the electrical connector, and then removing and reinstalling the sensor.

Q:
How Does the Fuel Evaporative Emissions Control (EVAP) System,Purge Valve,Fuel Pressure Sensor and Canister Work on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
A:
The fuel evaporative emissions control (EVAP) system consists of several components, including the canister, purge valve, vent valve, fuel tank pressure sensor, fuel tank, and vapor and purge lines. The system works by absorbing fuel vapors from the fuel tank and releasing them into the engine intake system during engine operation. The canister, filled with activated charcoal, absorbs and stores the vapors, which are then drawn into the intake manifold and combustion chamber through the purge hose by intake manifold vacuum. The PCM regulates the rate of vapor flow by controlling the duty cycle of the EVAP purge valve control solenoid. The system performs a self-diagnostic check when the engine is started cold, and the PCM monitors the fuel tank pressure sensor voltage to detect any leaks. The EVAP canister, purge valve, vent valve, and fuel tank pressure sensor can be replaced by following specific steps for each component.
