    Q:
What are the recommendations for maintaining and replacing Windshield Wiper on Buick Regal? Posted by Customer
    A:
Intense heat from the sun, snow and ice, road oils and windshield washer solvents can cause rubber wiper refills to deteriorate. It is recommended to replace the refills twice a year or when streaking or chattering occurs. To maintain effectiveness and prolong element life, keep the windshield and wiper blades clean by washing with a glass cleaner and wiping the rubber blades. Avoid moving the wipers by hand to prevent damage. To inspect or replace the wiper blade elements, place the wiper switch in LOW speed and the ignition switch in ACC position. When the blades are vertical, turn the ignition switch OFF. Cracked, broken, or torn elements should be replaced immediately. Replacement intervals vary, but ozone deterioration limits element life to about one year. If the wiper pattern is smeared, streaked, or chattering, replace the elements in pairs. Aftermarket blades may require different types of refills. Anco® refills have a release button, Trico® refills can be removed by pressing down on the metal backing strip, and other Trico® refills have two metal tabs that need to be squeezed together. Polycarbonate refills have a locking device, and Tridon® refills require removing the wiper blade by twisting counterclockwise. Follow the manufacturer's instructions closely and ensure all frame jaws are engaged to avoid scratching the glass during wiper operation.

    Q:
What are the methods for replacing a rubber wiper blade element on Chevrolet Caprice? Posted by Customer
    A:
There are two manners in which the rubber wiper blade element is fixed on the blade assembly, so that this entire part can be replaced without having to dismantle the wiper system. The first is a push button version which is generally red in colour; when this button is pressed, the rubber element can be pulled off the wiper blade. To insert a new element, the button is pressed again and the new strip is then placed on the blade and is locked immediately it is in the right position. The other method has a spring type retainer clip that extends at the end of the removable element and this can be released so as to allow the element to be slipped out of the blade assembly. Small pair of pliers may be applied to pressure on the retainer If new element is to be fitted in then metal insert should go through all retaining tabs of blade assembly.

    Q:
How to remove and install the Wiper Blade arm/blade assembly on Chevrolet Caprice? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the wiper arm/blade assembly, pull it away from the windshield glass against the tension of the wiper arm spring. Next, depress the small tab located just below the wiper arm at the blade connector socket and pull the blade from the arm. In some models, a coil spring blade retainer is used; to remove the blade in this case, insert a screwdriver on top of the spring and push downwards. For installation, reverse the removal process, ensuring that the connector is fully pushed onto the arm so that the small locating 'pip' is secure in the hole in the connector.

    Q:
What are the methods for replacing the rubber wiper blade element in a blade assembly on Chevrolet El Camino? Posted by Customer
    A:
Two methods are employed for fixing the rubber wiper blade element to the blade assembly, so when the wiper blade has to be replaced these do not have to be disassembled. One of them uses a press-type button, often red in color; the mechanism works by pushing the button to release the rubber element of the wiper blade ; the installation of a new piece involves pressing the button and then sliding the new piece until it clicks, meaning it is locked in place. The other method has a spring-type retainer clip at the end of the removable element; to remove the element, pinch the retainer, and a pair of pliers can be used to pinch the retainer. While installing a new element, the metal insert should be inserted into all the tabs of the blade assembly as can be seen in fig.

    Q:
How to inspect and replace windshield wiper blades on Pontiac Fiero? Posted by Customer
    A:
Periodical inspection should be done on the windshield wiper and blade assembly to check if there are any damages, loose components or cracked/worn wiper blade elements. Wiper blades can accumulate road film that might reduce their efficiency so they need to washed regularly with a solution of mild detergent. During this time of checking the wiper blades one should also pay attention to the wiping mechanism as the latter causes bolts, nuts and fasteners to loosen. If the wiper blade elements are cracked, worn or warped, they should be replaced with new ones. Clear the glass by lifting away the arm assembly and then remove it. Three methods are used to retain wiper blades to wiper arms. The first type has an internal spring in its blade. To remove it, press down on the blade, release the spring and remove it from the arm. The second type has a press-type release lever in its blade. When you depress this lever, you can slide off a whole blade assembly from a wiper arm's pin. A third type of blade uses an exterior spring in keeping itself attached on a pin connected to an arm temporarily; removing such one is possible by inserting a screwdriver under its spring and pushing downward on such screwdriver in order that its spring can get lifted up before taking off such blade from an arm.
