Raise the rear of the car and support it with jackstands placed at suitable locations under the frame. Support the rear axle with a mobile jack such as a transmission jack or floor jack, which can be rented on a daily basis from rental agencies and some auto parts stores. Remove the wheels and brake drums. Disconnect the parking brake cable by loosening the adjustment nut and prying forward on the parking brake equalizer lever to disconnect the forward cable from the equalizer lever. Twist the equalizer lever and disengage it from the pivot mount on the body. Remove the bolts that attach the brake line brackets to the chassis on both the left and right sides. Remove the track bar. Remove the lower shock attaching nuts and bolts from both shock absorbers. Lower the rear axle enough to remove the Coil Springs or Coil Spring Insulators. Do not suspend the rear axle by the brake hoses, as this could damage the hoses. If the Coil Spring Insulators are worn, cracked or damaged, they should be replaced. Inspect the springs for cracks or other damage. If they exhibit any of these conditions, or if the car has been sagging in the rear, the springs should be replaced. The Coil Springs should always be replaced as a pair. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. When installing the Coil Springs, be sure they are in the proper position. Adjust the parking brake.
