Pontiac 462980 Bushing,Front Upper Control Arm

The pivot bolt bushings in the upper control arm are non-serviceable, so if they are worn or damaged, the upper control arm assembly must be replaced. To begin removal, loosen the wheel lug nuts without removing them, then raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Next, remove the tire and wheel assembly. Use a hammer and chisel to break off the rivet holding the brake hose clip to the upper control arm, and then remove the brake hose bracket from the frame rail. Support the lower control arm with a floor jack and disconnect the upper balljoint from the steering knuckle. Remove the upper control arm pivot bolt, noting the position of any spacers or washers for reinstallation. After removing the upper control arm, inspect the bushings for wear; if they are worn or damaged, replace the upper control arm. If the balljoint is not damaged or worn, transfer it to the new upper control arm. For installation, position the new upper control arm and install the pivot bolt assembly, ensuring the bolt head faces the front of the vehicle. Install the pivot bolt nut, use a back-up wrench on the bolt head, and tighten the nut to the specified torque. Attach the balljoint to the steering knuckle, then install the tire and wheel assembly, tightening the wheel lug nuts finger tight. Finally, lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel lug nuts to the specified torque.
